It’s been just two days, but already five of the top 31 picks have come to an agreement with their respective clubs. The two most recent players to sign are shortstop Gavin Cecchini, who agreed with the Mets on a deal worth $2.3 million, and outfielder Victor Roache, who inked a $1.525 million deal with the Brewers.
The recommended slot for Cecchini’s draft spot was $2.5 million, meaning they now have an extra $200k to spend elsewhere in their draft. The Brewers allottment to sign Roache was $1.65 million, leaving Milwaukee with $125k to spend on their other selections.
As for where they’ll go next, Cecchini should be reporting to the Mets’ rookie-ball squad, while Roache may continue to rehab his broken wrist before heading off for a stint in the Arizona Fall League.
