- OF Skye Bolt (North Carolina) hasn’t had much success at the plate so far this season, hitting a mere .271. He came through in a big way on Friday night, although it wasn’t enough to guide the Tar Heels to victory. The outfielder went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second of the year.
- RHP Dillon Tate (UC Santa Barbara) was again at his best, striking out six in eight-innings of four-hit, one-run ball. The Gauchos offense couldn’t muster much in the way of support, and Santa Barbara fell to Wichita State 3-2. Through 36 innings, spanning five starts, Tate has a 41-to-11 K-to-BB ratio and has allowed just four runs.
- RHP James Kaprielian (UCLA) got only two runs of support, but that was more than enough thanks to a gem that included 10 strikeouts and just two walks and five hits scattered over seven innings. Kaprielian picked up his fourth victory as UCLA moved to 13-4.
- LHP Cole Irvin (Oregon) hasn’t had much time to work himself into shape. Such are the trials of a player working his way back after Tommy John surgery. Despite being limited to three- and four-inning stints, Irvin has managed to find moderate success, but that was nowhere to be found on Friday night, as the lefty had the worst start of the year, giving up four runs on four hits in just three innings in a 9-3 loss.
