Jesmuel Valentin Diaz, 2B/SS, Puerto Rican Baseball Academy (PR)

Class: HS Senior
Hometown: Manati, Puerto Rico
Height/Weight: 5-10/175
Born: May 12, 1994

Diaz is the son of former big-league super-utility man Jose Valentin, and spending years by his father’s side in numerous big-league clubhouses has added polish and a certain big-league panache to his game.

Playing on the same squad as top draft prospect Carlos Correa, Diaz hasn’t seen much time at his natural position (shortstop), instead deferring to second base, but the consensus seems to be that he’ll be offered the chance to play there once the two talents go their separate ways. He has all the defensive tools to succeed at short, including a very srong arm, quick feet and great natural instincts.

At the plate he’s not much of a power threat, but he’s got a great line-drive stroke. He’s taken up switch-hitting in the past year and while he still has a long ways to go to be a capable hitter from the left-side, he’s shown the same fluid swing.
